Tabular Mid-Table Joins

One of the features that SSAS Multi did very nicely was to allow the creation of relationships in the Cube’s dimension usage at the non-surrogate key level. This came in handy when modeling budget tables for different business units. A classic example is the modeling of quota for a sales rep.  The quota might be at the monthly level but the designer might want to set up the Cube relationship in such a way that you can browse the monthly quota aggregates by month, quarter, or year seamlessly. SSAS Multi did this without any coding.

My question lies in how to set something like this up for tabular. Obviously one to many relationships are the only relationships natively supported, but I do know DAX formulas can be used to do just about anything. My only thoughts where related to creating calculations that perform joins via a filter or setting up a many-to-many relationship.

Can any of the experts provide any guidance please?
