Unable to set SSAS directories to a non-default location? (on Windows Server 2012)

Hello,

I've been trying to install SSAS (SQL Server 2012 with SP1) on Windows Server 2012.  I'd like to place all the SSAS files on a separate volume so, in the setup, I changed all four data directory paths by replace C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server with D:\ (leaving the rest of the path unchanged).  When I do this, startup of the SSAS service fails with the message shown below.

The following system error occurred:  Access is denied.  File system error: Error occurred during the creation of directory: '\\?\D:\MSAS11.MULTIDIM\OLAP\Data'.

I don't think this should be relevant, but I this is a named instance install (the name is "MULTIDIM").  It is also the first instance install.  There is no database engine instance.

I tried this first using an Managed Service Account for the Analysis Services service account.  Then I tried using the default local virtual service account.  Same result in both cases.  Finally I gave up and installed (using the default local virtual service account) using the default data directories.  it worked
