I am getting an error when trying to browes an SSAS cube that has role level security implemented.
I have a dimension named DEPARTMENT. There are three attributes: DepartmentName, SC_Key, and Sales_Class. THere is one hierarchy in the dimension: Sales_Class >> DepartmentName. I have created a role called Project Managers. For this particular role, they should only be able to view/browse the DepartmentName attribute.
In the role I established dimension level and attribute security. On the data/attribute level, I deselected all members of the Sales_Class attribute and the SC_KEY attribute. I selected all members of the DepartmentName attribute.
On a dimension level, I did the same thing: I deselected all members of the Sales_Class and SC_KEY dimension and selected all members of the Department_Name attributes.
When I log in as a user who is part of the group I created and browse the cube, things "partially" work. For example, if I go into Excel and connect to the cube using a pivot table and I attempt to select Sales_Class or SC_KEY as one of the rows for my pivot table, nothing shows up - it's blank. That's good.
If I try to select DepartmentName, I get the following error:
Since I explicitly granted permissions on this attribute, I have no idea why it's not viewable? Is there an issue with trying to view an attribute of a dimension if it takes part in a hierarchy and the parent is "hidden", does that make the child hidden?
No idea what the scoop is here...
